About Saanich Centennial Branch

An exciting new community facility has come to the Tillicum neighbourhood. The Saanich Centennial Branch is adjacent to and connected to the Pearkes Recreation Centre as a Saanich Centennial project. The new branch includes:

• A computer training area, the Learning Centre
• Designated Internet stations in the Information Commons area
• Digital reference and homework help stations
• Collections to enhance family literacy and lifelong learning
• Program area for children and families
• Adult reading/program area in the "Living Room"
• Teen Zone with computer gaming stations
• Group study room
• 32" flat screen TV installed to provide information about library programs and services

More Information

The new branch is a partnership between the Greater Victoria Public Library and the Municipality of Saanich and will provide a library and archives in a shared facility. There will be opportunities for library staff and archives staff to work together to enhance services to the public.

Environmental design elements will create a "green building" that makes efficient use of natural resources. This new branch will be the first GVPL branch to pursue Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

It's fitting that a branch close to a shopping mall will provide one-stop shopping for community information.

The new library is one of Saanich Municipality's Centennial projects. A large part of the project funding is being provided by a grant from the Canada/BC Infrastructure Program. Additional funds have been provided through a donation from Rio Can Real Estate Investment Trust.

The building's architects are CEI Neilson Architecture Planning Interiors.
