Museum of Thieves by Liam Tanner Chantelle from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "Museum of Thieves was an amazing book with unexpected twists and turns the keep the reader guessing with every turn of the page. As the author reveals more about the main character you start to feel a connection, sharing their hatred of the adults that control them. This story will make you feel thankful for the parents that love us and give inspiration to mould the world into a better place. Overall it is well worth the read and encourage it to be read by others." |

Lucky Fools by Coert Voorhees Mikaela from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "Lucky fools is a good book...it would be great if the ending didn't turn, but i can't doubt that until the last two chapters i really enjoyed the book, i don't think there will be but if there was another book coming i would read it to see if what i wanted to happen would." |

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins Kendra from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "This book was interesting in so many ways it's hard to explain but to sum it up its about a couple of half demon friends working with what their demon fathers are. The seven deadly sins are what their demon fathers control but there are twelve, it's very adventurous and romantic and educational. It also reminded me of the back ground of about three other series that I've read." |

Social Suicide by Gemma Halliday Anvitha from the Emily Carr Branch says, "This book is absolutely WONDERFUL!! The characters are SO hilarious and realistic. Fall from Grace by Charles Benoit Jamie from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "I wasnt really a huge fan of this boook. I thought that it was really boring at most of the parts. I am not really a huge fan of the books about hollywood, but this one was probably way down there with the worst that I have read in the past couple of years." |

The Temptation - A Kindred Novel by Alisa Valdes Mikayla from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "The Temptation was a very amazing book. At times it got you on the edge of your seat. It was a very thrilling at times that made you not want to put it down." Overall: 5 out of 5 stars. |

Home for the Holidays by Heather Vogel Frederick Rai from the Oak Bay Branch says, "This book is more of a friendship novel, with a mix of romance, drama, and some comedy. It really shows that no matter how close friends are to each other, they can be set apart with one bad event. I enjoyed this book because it shows the reality between friends and how they constantly ignore each other, but make up later. Anyone who enjoys a novel with a mix of romance and drama would surely enjoy this book. I highly recommend it to people who have read the other books in the 'Mother-Daughter Book Club' series." |

Hana from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "I really loved reading this book. Once I started reading it, I just couldn't put it down. The author captivates you as she tells a story about forbidden love and danger." Anvitha from the Emily Carr Branch says, "This book has everything... adventure, mystery, suspense and terror. From the beginning to the end, this book will keep you guessing. A perfect start to a perfect new series!" |
![]() |
The Death Watch by Ari Berk Kay from the Oak Bay Branch says, "This book was definetly not action packed. I don't like saying bad things about a book, but it was very slow, and a little cheesy. I almost stopped reading, but there was a hint of mystery, and things that were unexplained, that kept me reading. The ending was pretty sad too. But it wasn't all bad! If you like books without a whole lot of adventure and action, this book is like that, sort of, and sort of about the main character (Silas') self discovery. Overall: Meh." |
![]() |
Fever by Lauren destefano Place a hold now! Lauren from Saanich Centennial says, "This book is on my top 20! It may be one of the ones I will read again. Rhine and Gabriel escape the mansion but they never realized how hard it really would be out of the mansion. In the mansion they truly got everything handed to them on a platter. The sequel is amazing! I suggest reading the first book before so it may make more sense , but either way its written gold!" |
![]() |
Curveball: The Year I Lost My Grip by Jordan Sonnenblick Mikaela from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "I loved the book with all of its drama. The book had me reading all through the night (literally) and I hope a second comes out." Overall recommendation: Drop everything, go to the library now and get this book!! |

Faery Tales & Nightmares by Melissa Marr Natasha from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "Faery Tales & Nightmares is a creative and well written book of short stories, filled with mystical creatures, romance, and magic. However, if you have not read her previous books the short stories may be confusing because many of them are based on characters and themes from her books. I would recommend this book to fans of Melissa Marr and fans of her Wicked Lovely series." |
![]() |
Slide by Jill Hathaway Ryana from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "Well to start off, I found the beginning a bit slow and boring but then things suddenly got a bit good or sad depends on how you see it. I didn't like the character Zane much...well I did I guess towards the end of the book. Now I thought the main character Vee was okay. She bugged me a bit though when she kept beating herself up about things (mentally of course). I loved Rollins though. He seemed very sweet and all.. I thought the whole mystery was good because at one point they made you think it was someone but then another someone comes along and you think it's them!! I was glad that the author addressed certain issues because those things happen in real life though I'm quite sure it dosen't quite happen by the same things (e.g. slashes body)...and that wasn't a spoiler cause it says on the back!!! All in all the book was pretty good besides the fact that some characters were annoying or it was a bit slow. I liked it!!!" Mikayla from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "This book was FANTASTIC!!! I loved it how it was about a girl who would 'Slide' into another person's head, and at that very moment see what this person was doing at time. The girl solved a murder case, and other mysteries, along the way. I think the author should write another book sequel to this one!!" Overall: Drop everything, go to the library now and get this book!! |

Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi Kay from the Oak Bay Branch says, "This was a really good book! It was about how Aria got exiled from her safe home in the Pods, into the Outside, where she meets Peregrine, or Perry, an outsider. This book was about an alternate future where things went wrong, but it wasn't too dark. Overall: Definitely recommend!!!! This book gets 4 stars [out of 5]." Brianna from the Esquimalt Branch says, "I thought it was a good book, because it was a easy read. [It] didnt take long to finish." Overall: Recommends this book only if you have lots of free time. 3.5 stars out of 5. |
Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth Charlotte from the Central Branch says, "This strong debut novel tells an unusual story. Full of unexpected twists, the plot stays engaging until the end. It tackles many potent LGBT issues without being preachy, as well as having sections that will make you glad that we live in a diverse and accepting city. There's a wonderful cast of multi-dimensional characters who make this book a pleasure to read. I would recommend The Miseducation of Cameron Post, to anyone who wants to read a powerful and interesting story with themes of romance, heartbreak and perseverance." |
Glimmer by Phoebe Kitanidis Mikaela from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "I love this book so much and i hope she makes another one."Overall: drop everything, go to the library and get this book! |

Forbidden by Syrie James and Ryan M. James Mikayla from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "This Book was AMAZING!! In this book you will find, Adventure, Romance, Suspense and Tons of other AMAZING STUFF! I recommend this book if you love books with different types of Genre's in it ! I also think that the author(s) should write a sequel to it!" Jennifer from the Emily Carr Branch says, "This book was spectacular. It's about a girl named Claire Brennan who wants to stay put for the rest of high school. So she can't tell her paranoid mom about her psychic visions warning her she's in danger. Then Alec MacKenzie comes along. How far will Alec go to protect Claire? I loved this book, I totally recommend it." 4.5 out of 5 stars. |
![]() |
The Girls of No Return by Erin Saldin Mikaela of the Juan de Fuca Branch says, I didn't finish this book because it started getting boring. It sounded good but about halfway though I stopped. You can read it if you want to but if you're like me you wouldn't want to." Overall: meh. |
![]() |
Guilty by Norah McClintock Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "Imagine your mom shot in a cold blooded murder right before your eyes. Imagine your father going to jail for 10 years, be out of prison for 3 days before he supposedly shoots his boss over money. Young Finn and Lila set out on the adventure to find the truth to why Finn's mother is dead and Lila's dad framed. Every clue they find brings them one step closer to the unforgivable truth." Overall: Definitely recommend. 4 out of 5 stars. |
![]() |
Victorio's War by John Wilson Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "Praise for Johnn Wilson's 'Desert Trilogy'! This is a great book that will dazzle the reader. It dazzled me so much that I read it all day long until I'm reading the advance part at the back of the book for a new book. It's the perfect recipe for a breathtaking experience." |
![]() |
Balthazar by Claudia Gray Kendra from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "So this book is amazing, some romance drama and a ton of problem solving. It kinda shows what it's like to have your best friend stab you in the back. The book, as much as it's about Balthazar himself, [actually has its] real main charcter [in a] girl [named] Skye Tierney. It seems that so many books are about vampires now that every single one I read it makes me think that they really could be real. This book is like the timeline of a vampire." Overall: Definitely recommend. |
![]() |
Hummingbird Heart by Robin Stevenson Jaya from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "I thought Hummingbird Heart was an okay book. There was nothing I found fantastic, and the story line was kind of bland. I found that it left the main character rather unchanged, which was to bad, she had alot to learn form the experince. The intersting thing about this book is that it is set here in Victoria, so you can relate to all the landmarks etc. Overall, I thought this book was not a waste of time, but I would not read it again." 2.5 out of 5 stars. |
Arcadia Awakens by Kai Meyer Briana from the Esquimalt Branch says, "It was a gripping thrilling adventure that will have young readers turning pages. It's a bloodlusting, [blood]curdling romance all in one book. I loved it because I like mystery and this book was mischievious and thrilling. I couldn't put the book down!" |
Wings of the Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton Kendra from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "The book is a thriller andromantic at the same time. I wish there was more to it though it just seemed to end at a bad spot. But forbiden love and betral are both fitte well into the book. It kept me up all night reading it so it only took me a day it was interesting and i just couldn't put it down. It is so far the best book I've read bein in the club." Mikaela from the Juan de Fuca Branch says "Love the book so much, I would suggest it for people who like romance and fighting scenes, but I would suggest you read the first book Angelfire first. The book is an amazing story and I hope you will get it!" |
Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver Borrow it now! Jamie from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "This book is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! If you can, go to the library and get this book!!! I am terrible at choosing books too late in the series to understand them, but this book is absolutely fantastic!!" Kendra from Emily Carr says, "My book review is simple, Let me just say its completely suspense filled. So many unexpected turns happen throughout the book and it makes me feel I'm really there. Its so hard to imagine a loveless world but that's what it is." |
The Always War by Margaret Peterson Borrow it now! Kay from the Oak Bay Branch says, "This book was pretty good. At the beginning it was a little slow, but the closer i got to the end the better it got. Gideon was kind of whiny though. It was really thin, like one of those younger childrens novels, but i enjoyed it. 3 stars!" |
Pink Smog by Fracesca Lia Block Lauren from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "This book shows how even when everything falls apart one person can make all the difference. When Weetzie's dad leaves without a trace after a tragic fight, she goes out to find what happens only to find more mysteries that will only be helpful if she unravels them. An amazing prequel. I never read the first book but I want to read it now! Great book hope you find it enjoyable!!" |
The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "Fairly good book. A couple years after Prince Jaron's “death”, the country is on the brink of war with only one chance - to create a false prince. Conner collects 3 boys to train to become the prince. Only one will make it. Does Sage have a chance?" Overall: Definitely recommend; 3.5 stars out of 5 |
Bewitching by Alex Flinn Jamie from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "The thing that really urged me to read Bewitching was the fact that at the beggining, the prologue was all about this character who tells her story about herself, but then she involves herself in the story. It is a very igly recomended book in my point of view. If I needed to summarize the book in one sentence it would have to be, 'Holy crap!!!!'" Jaya from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "Bewitching is a book that tickles the imagination: what would you do if your friend was a witch? Emma lives that fantasy; her best friend, Kendra Hilferty, can work magic. This just happens to be what Emma needs. Her father’s biological daughter Lisette moved in and is blackmailing Emma and her mother out of the house – and she is so perfect, no one will believe Emma! Luckily, Kendra is there to work a little wonder, and she is not just any witch! Her part in Hansel and Gretel, The little Mermaid, and the princess and the pea are bigger than you think! I loved reading Bewitching; it explores beauty, popularity, loss, love, and trust. Alex Flinn does it again in this entertaining book. Twists and turns of emotion come on every page –and it is a real page turner. I would highly recommend it, so look for it in February!" Natasha from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "Bewitching could make you believe in magic and fairy-tales! Enchanting and creative and just a little random. Emma is relatable and lovable but i grew to love all the characters and I hope there will be more in the Kendra chronicles. A good read if you liked Beastly or if you just love fairy-tales." Overall: 4 out of 5 stars; definitely recommend. Kay from the Oak Bay Branch says, "This book was great! i felt like i was there the whole time! It was creatively written, and the best book i've read in a while! Read It! It was sort of a romance, which i don't usually read, but i loved it! A little dark, a little funny a little romance, htis book is a great read!" |
The Survivors by Will Weaver Jennifer from the Emily Carr Branch says, "I thought the book was okay. It took me time to get into it. I thought the book would be a little faster [but] it was kind of slow. Overall I think the book is something you might like if you're a science-fictions kind of person." Overall: meh. 2.5 out of 5 stars. Mariah from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "Personally, I thought that The Survivors was a different book. Not hard to understand, but not suspenseful or too action-filled. The one part I did like was Miles and his snowmobile, as well as Sarah and the gigantic buck. But other than that, there wasn't much action (it was a bit slow). I read it past midnight waiting for it to speed up. It didn't really. Overall: meh |
Invisible Sun by David MacInnis Gill Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "This book was great! It made me want to go back and read the first book of the series because, at the start, I was wondering "who's this?" and "Who's that?". Jacob has two missions. #1 steal data, and #2 save his partner from an evil villian's minion before she loses her mind. Who is his partner? Who is the minion? Who is the enemy? What data? The answers to all those questions you will have to find out on your own." Overall: drop everything, go to the library now and get this book! |
The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers by Lyn Weingarten Kendra from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "The book was interesting in different ways. It was funny, dramatic and depressing. It was definitely creative, and I could relate to it which is why it was a good book." Lauren from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, " This book is a magical novel that shows that there's more to the eye when it comes to irresistible love. Lucy, a girl with a broken heart, had just come out of a relationship when the sisterhood of heart breakers took Lucy in as the last and newest member of their group. As she fights to keep balance in her new group she found that her best relationships might have been love under an invisible cloak. Compelling story line and leave you wondering how it would continues. So good they could have made a sequel to the book. Not rushed and has alot of details so it's much more interesting. Can't wait until it comes out!!" |
Everneath by Brodi Ashton Jennifer from the Emily Carr Branch says, "I really like this book it kept me reading. [Warning: possible spoilers!] I think the way Nikki only had six months to say goodbye, and live her life in the normal world was interesting. She has six months before she has to leave to go back to everneath forever. This book had alot going on, but the author made it all sound really good and she mixed it in very well. Overall a great read." Lauren from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "This book is a ticking time bomb life story of Nikki, a girl that was taken to Everneath. Above she still has loved ones and people she wasn't ready to let go. When she gets six months to say goodbye she struggles to leave subtly with out hurting anymore than she already has. An excellent book! Sequel worthy, with just as much creativity!" Katelyn from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "This is story based on the myth about Persephone, a myth I'm not at all familiar with so I can't tell you if it mirrors the original much or not, but here's a little summary. It starts out with Nikki waking up from something called The Feed where she has been attached is some sort of way to this immortal guy named Cole. Once awake, she has a choice to stay with him in the Everneath, or to return to her family. She chooses to return because there's a face in her memory that she simple cannot forget.all in al this book was a 3.5 out 5" |
Morpheus Road The Black by D.J. Machale Borrow it now! Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "Great book! This book is full of action with the great twist that the people are dead. This book has lots of suspense and is a good 'time-sucker-upper'. I love the black, spirit killing sword." |
Cleopatra's Moon by Vicky Alvear Shecter Lauren from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "This story gives the life line of Cleopatra Selene, the daughter of Cleopatra. Her life becomes a total wreck when the Romans abduct their home and kill their family, and all but Cleopatra Selene are left. A heart breaking yet intriguing book of the past nobody will want to revisit. Amazingly written, definitely will be a book I'll want to keep on my book shelf forever!" |
The Scorpia Races by Maggie Stiefvater Borrow it now! Kay from the Oak Bay Branch says, "At the beginning, this book seemed a little unrealisticly written, but it was never boring really. I only took so long to read it because I had so much homework. I always picked it up whenever i could, while the teacher paused in a sentence, at recess, whenever! (well I do that all the time but that's not the point!) |
Kiss Crush Collide by Christina Meredith Lauren from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "This book is an amazing love story that shows that having it all doesn't mean that you truly have it all. [The main character] has the guy, the parents, the house, the car, the smarts, and the job but that wasn't what she wanted. In this book, Leah discovers what she truly wants: a boy completely different than what she has. In her process of forming her life the way she wants it, she flips her world upside down with her family and friends as they wonder where their Leah had gone. Definitely suggest reading, completely captivating and is a great book. Read it in a day, perfect for the library or as a fun time waster." |
Shatter Me byTahereh Mafi Borrow it now! Gregory from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "This book was better than I expected it to be. Out of the 5 books I could choose from it was the most interesting but I still didn't expect much. When I read this my opinion on the book changed. This book was amazing I just couldn't put it down." Tanya from the Nellie McClung says, "This book is deffinately a must read!!! It is full of love, action, and suspence! It's mainly about this girl who has powers to kill with her touch. Till she meets Adam... Who is immune. But he is a soldier at her hostage place. So will they work out? Will she get away?" |
The Poison Diaries by Maryrose Wood Borrow it now! Lauren from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "So beautifully detailed. Loved to read. It was just one of those books that sucked you in. I felt like I was in the book, you get so captivated by the book. [***Spoiler alert!] When Oleander promises Jessamine to take her to Weed (her one and only love), he tricks her into falling for him on her way. She falls in love with Oleander only because he poisons her into it without her knowing [***]. Tragic ending but beautiful story, [that] will leave your mind whirling for weeks. Pick up this book and read it!" Ana from Emily Carr Branch says, "The book for me was just ok- there was nothing overall special about, although it did have a compelling and readable quality. MEH." |
Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey Forrest from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "Cold Kiss isn't a conventional zombie book(about brain eating zombies), although it is still definetly a zombie novel. I liked how she didn't have complete control over him, although she did have partial control. The book went a bit slow in parts, but altogether I'd say its a pretty good book." |
Above by Leah Bobet Lauren from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "Like it says on the front cover, this book makes legends for casting that magical spell while also being so realistic at the same time. Definitly a great book to read! When it comes out in 2012 I cant wait to see it! When Mat falls in love for a beautiful yet Sick (you'll get it when you read it) girl with no name, [he is] irresistably drawn to her and he takes her into his life. When everything turns wrong their relationship is tested. |
Escape Velocity by Robin Stevenson Borrow it now! Leanne from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "Escape Velocity by Robin Stevenson is about a girl trying to come to terms with her estranged and disinterested mother. This book is a sad portrait of many different kinds of dysfunctional families and of the miscommunications and secrets that can exist between generations, but also of the possible connections. It's full of desperation and the unexpected warmness of friendship. It's not exactly a fast-paced book, but I would strongly recommend it to those who don't need a lot of action, though the book does have a few twists." |
Ravenwood by Andrew Peters Borrow it now! Kay from the Oak Bay Branch says, "So, I thought this was a good book, it was written interestingly. It is based in the future I think, and there is this civilisation of people living in trees. It was a bit cheesy, because they had these tree based swear words, like instead of Holy it was Holly, and then there was Barkingham castle instead of Buckingham castle, but it was a really good book with a good story line, even though it was a bit slow at some parts. You should read it if you are looking for an interesting read. 3 1/2 stars" |
A Touch Morbid by Leah Clifford Lauren from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "I thought this book was really awesome and really suggest it to Twilight loving people. The only issue with it was that if you haven't read the [first] book then you go half way through the book not knowing what its about. For anyone who has read the book ' A Touch Mortal,' it's a beautiful book that is very dramatic and is all about trust. [The characters] don't know what's around the corner and are taking risks to keep their loved ones close even though those risks could pull them apart for good. I recomend this book!" |
Beautiful Days by Anna Godbersen Borrow it now! Laura from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "I really liked the story of this book. I feel it would have been better if it was written by the perspective of a different character, but it was interesting to read." |
Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon Borrow it now! Nicole from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "This book was amazing, albeit predictable. Typical girl has forbidden love, Edward-Bella-Twilight thing but different at the same time. The twists in the plot could have been harder, for sure and the ending was too much of a cliff-hanger (I hate that) for me but the idea was there. I hope to see a second book from this!" |
Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler Borrow it now! Kayleigh from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "This book was beautiful. It's incredibly well written, and the premise is very creative. It doesn't feel like you're reading a novel, it feels like you're reading a letter like the authour intended it." Lauren from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "In this book Min. the main character brings us through their complicated relationship that comes to a faltering end. She uses little pieces she found on their journey together to tell the story[, like] a little ticket stub from the time they went to the movie or their first drink together. Every moment she kept were rapped up in those little things, and now she sends them back to him with the story of why they broke up. i think this book is brilliant and if i had more time would read it again." |
iBoy by Kevin Brooks Borrow it now! Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, " |
Rock Star by Adrian Chamberlain Borrow it now! Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, First off, this isn't the best book I've read. It's the kind of book where you will hear about a guy making some tough choices about what to do with his life. If this is the life of a rock star, I'll pass. The book was like a love, hate relationship - I loved reading it, but I hated the story." |
The Beginning of After by Jennifer Castle Nicole from the Juan de Fuca Branch, says "I liked the ideas behind the story-line but, the ending was a little weak. The plot was building up a lot but there was no climax and so it just kind of died at the end. The book was still interesting though. I definitely had a hard time putting it down!" |
The Mostly True Story of Jack by Kelly Barnhil Kay from the Oak Bay Branch says, " This book kept me reading from the start and I read it quickly. I figured out what was going to happen in the first few chapters, but the storyline was surprising. It's about magic/ faeries, mostly magic. It had an original story idea (from all the magic stories I've read)and I enjoyed it, although it wasn't the greatest book I've ever read." |
![]() |
There is No Long Distance Now by Naomi Shihab Nye Borrow it now!
Kayleigh from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "Honestly, I found this book so boring that I couldn't finish it. It's full of two-three page stories that have no plot. Reading this is like reading a story written by a small child, but without the imagination." Overall: avoid this book at all costs; 0.5 stars out of 5. Leanne from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "I feel like this book is a collection of someone else's dreams. The stories are flashes of different situations and emotions and whether the one you're reading is a hopeful anecdote or a seemingly uneventful wandering of thought, they are all hauntingly beautiful. You hit the right story -the one that relates to your life right now- and suddenly you're re-reading and re-reading, soaking up that feeling that someone understands, someone gets you. Each poem-dense story is about a five minute read and only a few contain the same characters, but overall they weave together an explanation of what it's like to grow up in this world." |

Dark Eden by Patrick Carman Laura from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "I really enjoyed this book. I found the idea behind dealing with peoples fears and different fears really interesting. The ending was also really surprising which was a nice change." Lauren from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "i found the main character very secretive, but as the story goes on you find out so much more about him. same with the characters around him. its not like they tell you about them right off the bat. it holds you on edge as you uncover their personality. i definitly recommend reading this!!" Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "It wasn't the greatest book I've read, but it kept drawing me in and kept me wondering the whole time what would happen next . Once I started reading I couldn't put it down until I finished the last page. The main character, Will Besting, was pretty cool because he could make cool stuff out of old junk, like old iPods. The old dude in the book, Mr. Rainsford, was pretty creepy too - especially when he 'cured' everyone." |

Kay from the Oak Bay Branch says, "This book was a bit slow at the beginning but it had a nice story and its was very deep, with a suprising twist at the end. Not so much action packed, this book was kind of different. I enjoyed reading it though it took me longer than usual to read. I recommend it!;D Enjoy!"

Variant by Robison Wells Gregory from the Juan de Fuca Branch says,"This book is well written and crazy good. It has a bit of everything... adventure, mystery, romance. There are twists and turns in every chapter. This is one of those books that you can't put down and when you go to bed you want to read it under the covers!!! I would recommend this book to anyone not just specifically people who only read one genre, because this book has many genres all wrapped into one." Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "One word - Fantastistic. This fantasy book was awesome. Hugely suspenseful with lots of description. I loved the paintball games! I wish I could do that in in real life deep within a huge forest - Sitting down in a bunker with loads of paintballs ready to blast someone! You have got to get this book." May from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "This is one of the best books I've read. It makes you think and rethink what's going on. The book is extremely well written and shows us that everybody is not who they seem to be. The school is like no other and there is an edge to the book which will never let you put it down." |

Charlie's Key by Rob Mills Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "It was a very interesting read with lots of suspensful parts -You never know WHO you can trust. It was such a quick read that it definitely needs a sequel. I liked how they got gravy with their fries instead of ketchup. Who does that? I give it 4 stars and highly recommend it." |

Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday Borrow it now! May from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "I thought the book was very good. I loved the mystery and how it makes you think. The way the killer attacked was very inventive." Jillian from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "I loved this book i'm a fan of pretty little liars and love mystery. This book is a great mix of action mystery and romance. Definitely one of my favs now. If you like mystery check out this book." Amelia from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "Deadly cool is a great book packed with action, mystery and love. But it is was not too scary for me. This funny book is one of my favorites and is definitely one that I will share with my friends." |
Ghost Moon by John Wilson Borrow it now! Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "A slow start. It was a bit hard to grasp the storyline and who the characters were, but I soon realized that it was a sequel to Written in Blood by the same author which I had previously reviewed. I like being abie to read the books in order, so that worked out well. Not quite as good as the first book in the series, but I really liked it when Will, Bill and the other regulators were trapped inside a burning house while it was being bombarded by the armies' Gattling gun and Howitzer." |
Eve by Anna Carey Katelyn from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "I would have liked to give this book 5 Glasses, but I couldn’t. I felt Eve’s transformation from naive schoolgirl to brave heroine was a little too easy. While I liked the characters, I didn’t have a lot invested in them. Also, some of the obstacles Eve encounters on her journey were very predictable. It was kind of like watching a horror movie and screaming at the character to tell her to NOT walk inside the dark, creepy room – you know what is going to happen! All in all, EVE is a nice addition to the list of dystopian books flooding the young adult market today." Hana from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "I enjoyed reading this book because the plot is unpredictable and the story idea in itself is unique. [**Possible spoiler**] Just when everything seems alright, Eve is found again, adding even more twists and turns to the plot. In the end, I can not really say if Eve has a happy or sad ending, as it can go both ways and is purely opinionated. You'll have to read the book yourself and decide: happy or sad?? As the first book in a new trilogy, I cannot wait to read the next one/s!" |

Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies Laura from the Juan de Fuce Branch says, "I really liked this book. It's filled with loads of suspense." Definitely recommend. Katelyn from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "Jocelyn Davies undoubtedly pulled me in immediately with her mention of cupcakes and lattes in the opening chapter. Truly, what else could be more perfect for a birthday party? A Beautiful Dark's premise sounded mysterious all on it's own and I couldn't wait to start it and discover what was really behind the mentioned mysterious events. The novel, unfortunately, began quite slowly however the pace quickened drastically after just a few chapters with the interesting introduction of Asher and Devin, two brothers who were both as enigmatic as they were different. Tanya from the Nellie McClung Branch says, " The book was ok... I think the main reason I really wanted to finish the book was because Skye( the main character) has to choose between these 2 amazingly gorgeous angels ( Devin and Asher) and the dark side and the light side. She has to choose The Order, (something like heaven), or The Resistance which is like a better hell." |
Fateful by Claudia Gray Borrow it now! Kelsey from the Juan de Fuca Branch says "Originally i thought the idea of the book was too far fetched but once I got into it I enjoyed it. Definitely a read for those who like supernatural themes." |
Skate Fate by Juan Felipe Herrara May from the Nellie McClung Branch says "I've read only two other books in free verse and this is unlike them both. The way the poems are written in a way that leaves out details. The other books fill you in on the characters' lives, but this one leaves gaps for you to fill." Overall: definitely recommend. |
Possess by Gretchen McNeil Hana from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "I really liked this book because of the idea that the main character is part angel and has these cool powers that allow her to banish demons. Even though this book is a bit religious I still enjoyed reading it, when I normally dislike religious themed books." Lahvindar from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "This was a book that made me laugh, cry, hold my breath in suspense and pull the covers up over my face to hide from the demons. I couldn't put it down, and it lives in the 'favorites' section of my bookshelf. If you like an eerie story that raises goose bumps on your arms and leaves you with bated breath, read the book Possess!!" |
The Yo-Yo Prophet by Karen Krossing Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "Once I picked it up I couldn't stop reading it....I don't know why. As soon as I finished the book though, I dusted off my yo-yo and started practicing some new tricks (like loop the loop) so I liked how that worked out. An easy, light read" |
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin Borrow it now! Nicole from the Juan de Fuca Branch says "I loved the storyline of the book as it was easy to follow. The little twists during the course of the story all led up to a huge surprise at the end! Read this book! :D" |
The Clockwork Chronicles #1:The Brimstone Key by Derek Benz & J.S. Lewis Martin from the Central Saanich Branch says, "This is a really great book for people who like books with fantasy creatures and technology. I really liked it, although there was one confusion: the book says it's the first book of the series, but it seems as if there was another book before it!" |
The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder Jennifer from the Emily Carr Branch says "I liked this book it kept me reading. It's also written differently then other books, it's written life a poem but isn't one. It's also like she's writing a letter. I finished the book faster then the other books I have read. I think you should read this book I liked it." |
Ghost Ride by Marina Cohen Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "It wasn't the most interesting book I've read, but it sure helped to pass the time. I thought it was pretty cool though [there were some bloody parts]I'd read it only if I had to." Rating: 2/5 |
Swear by Nina Malkin Jamie from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "This book is one of the best that I have read in a long time. I started reading it and I could not put it down afterwards. It is about love, betrayal and other wacky fun stuff that every book should have" Overall: definitely recommend. 4.5 stars out of 5. Hana from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "This is a great sequel to Swoon. I love it when Sin and Dice go back in time only to have Dice come back without Sin. I think this is just as good as the first book and if you haven't read it yet, get it!!" |

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson Chantelle from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "An exciting read! Set in the time period of castles and knights and when everyone was Christian. It was much like Tamora Pierce's books. This book gets a 7/10" Jozi from the Central Saanich Branch says, "If you've read this book you might be surprised be how highly i rated it. The beginning was really boring and I almost stopped reading it - most people would have - but I was camping and that was the only book I had so I kept reading. And I'm really happy I did. From the moment Elisa got kidnapped I literally cound not put the book down, it was so good! It had lots of excitement, suspense, foreshadowing, and a really, really good plot! A great book!" Avril from the Esquimalt Branch says, "This book was a great read for many reasons, but mainly it was because it was about a girl who blossoms into a leader. It's set back a long time ago; but don't let that stop you because the author is really good about writing about the past time. Although this was a great book, there was one minor setback: it was awkward to read because it has to do with a religion that I am not familiar with. I also think that it was lacking emotion from the main character. Other than that it was a very captivating book." Courtney from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "The begining of the book was really boring and read it really slowly. Then when I came to the part where Elisa got kidknapped it turned into such an exciting read. At the start when i realized it was set it the era of castles and kings i wasn't very excited for what came next in the book." |
All Good Children by Catherine Austen Brendan from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "I really like this book and can relate to it because a lot of adults want me and everyone else to be perfect. No fights, good grades, and no questions. This author seems to know what's it like to be a kid." |
So Much Closer by Susane Colasanti Borrow it now! Avril from the Esquimalt Branch says "So Much Closer was a book that in my opinion fell flat on its face. One reason is because they set the expectation from the back of the book higher then is delivered. The reason being is because I had a different expectation then what was really written. It came across as being a story about some girl that follows a boy, finds out her prediction of him and her were wrong and quote “Lives a life beyond her wildest dreams” It turns out this book was “par contre” in that the girl turns out to be oblivious to how she was leading her life because she was really obsessed over a boy. I think this book also deserved some more drama. The reason being because of the fact I could predict all events to come therefore it was dull to read. Overall I think this is an O.K. book. It kept me till the end because I just wanted to see if she turned her life around, but it was unrealistic in that I never heard of anyone so obsessed over someone without a real relationship." |
Perfect by Ellen Hopkins Borrow it now! Rayanna from the Central Saanich Branch says, "This was an amazing book from beginning to end. You really want to know how it is going to end. Very gripping. I couldn't put it down. The whole idea of the book is that lots of people are pressured into being perfect all the time. Its a very good and very emotional book. i highly recommend it!" |
The Last Dragonslayer by Jasper Fforde Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "I thought this book was like pulling a freight train with your teeth. Painfully slow. There was lots of talking and not much action, which I thought was odd for a book about slaying dragons! It kinda got better about a third of the way through, but not much better. The sword was the coolest part: I wish I had one." |
The Relic Master: The Dark City by Catherine Fisher Borrow it now! Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "It was fairly good. After 371 pages, it was an OK way to pass the time. I had nothing better to do. It was a bit like a snowball rolling down a very slight slope...Sloooww to pick up speed, but it eventually got better. I thought Raffi was pretty pro with his sense lines. I wish I had them. Lets hope the next books in this series are way better than this one." |
Nocturne by Christine Johnson Tabi from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "A fascinating book on werewolves. I love how even though its a fantasy book you can still relate to parts of it. A must read!" Sarah from the Central Saanich Branch says "A brilliant book on what it's like to grow up and suddenly have to change everything for just one thing. Claire is a wonderful character and I wish there was a sequel coming up soon! " Overall: definitely recommend. |
Power of Six by Pittacus Lore Borrow it now! Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says"First off, I haven't read "I Am Number Four", but right from the start it was easy to pick up the story line of this series. This book has lots of description in every way - From how they ran, to what a mog cannon was. All I have left to say is get this book now! Read it. You won't regret it ;) Praise to Pittacus Lore!" |
This Dark Endeavour by Kenneth Oppel Borrow it now! Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says "Another outstanding book by Kenneth Oppel. I would rate this one close to the top. It really kept me in suspense while sitting at the edge of my seat. I enjoyed seeing life through Victor’s eyes, but I sure wouldn’t want to be him – he’s creepy!" |

ten things we did (and probably shouldn't have) by Sarah Mlynowski Borrow it now! Avril from the Esquimalt Branch says "ten things we did is a great read for teens looking for a book that is written in a way that even though the character is older, other people could still read. (Although i'm not sure if boys would like this one.) I particularly loved the way the author threw in lots of twists; it really kept the reality in check. However I didn't think it was as conducive as a summer read because it was about a teenager while she was going through 1/2 a year of school, and I couldn't think of school at during summer. Another thing i liked about the book is that it kept me from beginning to end. I just couldn't put it down! I personally couldn't relate to April other than the fact Avril means April in french. I think so because I am not at an age when for example I have been to a party. I think Sarah has really captured how flip floppy life can be no matter how prepared you think you are. All in all if you're looking for excitement head on down to your local library and check out this hot read." May from the Nellie McClung Branch says "It was a great book about a not-so-average sixteen year old. It's different than other books. It's the only book of it's kind. I couldn't put it down, I finished in a day and a half and brought to class to read when I'm done my work. This book is harder to connect to because it's not too likely to get in some of the same situations." Kelsey from Saanich Centennial says "I thought this book was okay. It is a good book to read if you are looking for something modern, and easy with a simple typical, teenage plot/storyline. It does introduce many common topics that teenagers may come accross at least once during their teenage years. Thus, being easy to relate to." Overall: meh |
Shadowcry by Jenna Burtenshaw Chantal from the Nellie McClung Branch says "Four words; amazing, gripping, and attention-grabbing. I thought I would be tired of adventure novels by now, and I am, but this one is quite the exception. It's simply delicious! My attention was taken right at the start, and I couldn't stop reading! I had to find out what would happen next... then I realized it was 4am. Kate, our protagonist, is a charming character easy to relate to. I give this book a 10/10 rating! MUST READ!" |
Switch by Tish Cohen Borrow it now! Nicole from the Juan de Fuca Branch says "Switch teaches you that even though you can't choose your family, you can still love them with all your heart. The book shows that even though making the right decisions can be tough, they leave you feeling better about yourself. Cohen shocks readers with stunning revelations and a well written ending ties up all loose ends. An all around good book that will leave readers with the knowledge that, maybe, what this world needs is a little love. Sink your teeth into this delicious book and enjoy!" |
Dead Rules by Randy Russell Jozi from the Central Saanich Branch says "This was a good book. I liked the author's idea of dying, how you still have to go to school. The main character wants to become a slider - a bad kid - and not go to heaven because she's in love her boyfriend, who doesn't love her back, and may have even murdered her. It's really creative and fun!" Overall: definitely recommend. Eleanor from the Central Saanich Branch says "Although it might seem slightly depressing at first as the story progresses it has a humorous side to it that really makes it quite good. 8 out of 10." |
Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik Borrow it now! May from Nellie McClung Branch says "A book unlike any other ones I've read, showing that guys, and other people have two sides to themselves. One they show to everybody, and one they keep to themselves or share with a certain few. There are better books out there, but for a twist on a classic it's well-written." Overall: definitely recommend Paula from Emily Carr says "Great book! I started reading and never stopped until I was done, literally! It really proves that not all rich and famous people are snobs and not all nerds/geeks/dorks are really sweet guys. The author did a reallly great job of portraying this." |
Dust & Decay by Jonathan Maberry Borrow it now! Rayanna from Central Saanich Branch says "this was not the best book ive read but it kept me interested. the beginning was a bit boring but as it went on it got better and better. the ending was sad. all in all this book was ok." Overall: meh |

Compulsion by Heidi Ayarbe Borrow it now Sarah from Central Saanich Branch says "I really, really enjoyed this book. Jake was a great character to get to know, however it's sometimes hard to understand his perspective on everything in his life, especially his obsession with primes numbers. It's a really interesting read though and I highly reccomend it." Overall: definitely recommend. Kelsey from the Juan de Fuca Branch says "This book was an interesting insight into OCD. It was interesting but I had a bit of trouble getting into it. The ending wasn't conclusive enough for me but in the end it was a good read." Overall: meh Kerris from the Central Saanich Branch says "This was an interesting book about a teenage boy who suffers from OCD and such compulsions affect every aspect of his daily life. Though the author did use several short and choppy sentences, overall the book was quite well written. It truly makes you realize any OCD tendencies that you may have and also learn about how some people are restricted by such things. In conclusion, the book was alright. For people out there looking for an action-packed novel, this book is not for you. But for a nice, easy read, it is definitely a good book" |
Voice of the Undead by Jason Henderson Hana from the Nellie McClung Branch says "This is an amazing sequel to Alex Van Helsing: Vampire Rising. Full of unexpected twists, this is a must read for anyone who likes vampires and a bit of a mystery. Once I started reading it, it was hard for me to stop! I really enjoyed reading this book. The vampire concept is different again, and extremely entertaining." Rhoan from Bruce Hutchison Branch says "GREAT book. I think that if you need a amazing book, read this one. This book is for fans of the alex rider series and the last apprentice series. If you have some time, THEN READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!! :)" Overall: definitely recommend.

Wildefire by Karsten Knight Jennifer from the Emily Carr Branch says "I loved this book. It has something new on each page and I didn't want the book to end. I would definitely read this book." Emily from the Juan de Fuca Branch says "Any fan of the "Percy Jackson" series will enjoy this read. Karsten Knight brings gods and goddesses the world over to life in an extremely relate able form that begs for a closer look by any mythology nerd such as I. Beautiful imagery and a gripping storyline keeps the book fresh from beginning to end. I am already hungry for a sequel." May from the Nellie McClung Branch says "A great book, similar to Percy Jackson but with a twist. The main character was a bit hard to relate to but I couldn't put the book down! This book is almost screaming for a sequel." |
Deadly Sister by Eliot Schrefer Borrow it now Tabi from the Saanich Centennial Branch says "So suspensfull and action packed. A must read especialy for those who are the older sister." Overall: definitely recommend. Forrest from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "I really liked The Deadly Sister, and how it keeps making you guess who the killer is until the very end. I didn’t like the ending, because it withheld information that was vital to solving the mystery. Also, I liked how the characters had multidimensional personalities. Throughout the book I knew that they were after the wrong person, but it didn’t turn out the way I expected." |
Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor Isabelle from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "I really enjoyed this book because, although it was the same "teen in new world etc...", it was in a new place, and it was a new world to me, too. When Sunny joins the world of Leopard people, she enters a world of magic, good, and bad people. Having to save the world with her new friends, the albino-west African girl has much character and power. |
Illusions by Aprilynne Pike Borrow it now! Paula from the Emily Carr Branch says, "I liked the book, but I found it a bit confusing at the beginning and I couldn't relate to any of the characters. I think if the beginning was more clear, it would be a lot better. But on the whole it was a very interresting book. Overall: MEH." |
Flip by Martyn Bedford Borrow it now! Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "What would you do if you woke up in someone else's body? At first, when i had just started reading this book, I thought, "this is horrible". But I gave the book a chance and, before I knew it, I kept getting drawn deeper and deeper into the the unfolding story. It's definitely a great book. You should get it. Seriously!" |

Written in Blood by John Wilson Borrow it now! Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "First off, if action and suspense isn't your thing, then you should look elsewhere for a new book to read! |
Once Was Lost by Sara Zarr Borrow it now! Sarah from the Central Saanich Branch says, "I thought this book was incredibly well written and a great read. Normally I'm not a fan of books that sort of revolve around religion but this one was really good. I really liked Sam as a character and I'm happy the Nick ended up playing a great role in this book. I didn't really like her dad at all but her mom was pretty interesting. I would definitely recommend reading this book." |

The Berlin Boxing Club by Robert Sharenow Borrow it now! Isabelle from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "I read this whole book in a day and a night. It was so good I even read the Author's Note because I didn't want to put it down. Even if you aren't particularly interested in boxing, like me, this book is still fantastic. I thought it was very well written, and the descriptions were long enough to let you make a picture but never dragged on. I also really like that the book goes on during about 4 or 5 years, so no matter how old you are, you can relate to the main character at one point in the book, at least. This story is full of action and is very satisfying to read. Ten out of ten!" Chantelle from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "The Berlin Boxing Club was okay, not really all that spectacular. It did tell a compelling tale of survival through Nazi Germany. This book would not be suitable for readers under 12, as it can get boring at times" Overall: meh |
Carter's Big Break by Brent Crawford Borrow it now! Jacob from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "Awesome book. This book is greatly suited for mature teens and is really good book with lots of sad parts but also some cool parts. If i had to rate this book out of 10 this book would be a total 9.5!" |

The Thin Executioner by Darren Shan Borrow it now! Jacob from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "Heads are rolling right from the start! |
Moonshadow: Rise of the Ninja by Simon Higgins Borrow it now! Jacob from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "I think this book is an award winner. It is the first Simon Higgins book I've read and it's awesome. It's full of action and jam packed with lots of fighting, which I really enjoy! This would be a great beginning for a series as I can't wait for a sequel." |

Bumped by Megan McCafferty Borrow it now! Riley from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "Bumped by Megan McCafferty was an alright read. I think that she had a good idea of writing about something that is so relevant in society today (teen pregnancies), but the way that she did it didn't really appeal all that much to me. First, this book was written in the present tense, which just irks me. Some people love it, but I don't. Don't know why, but I just do. Also, there was not a lot of detail or explanation on how the Virus came to be. It was just kind of there, but the readers don't really know why. I think the quality of the writing of this novel was mediocre. It just didn't seem like anything really special, in my opinion." Katelyn from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "From New York Times bestselling author Megan McCafferty comes a strikingly original look at friendship, love, and sisterhood—in a future that is eerily believable. Tabi from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "i think it was a good book but recommend it for the older readers (15+) and find the idea of the book a bit strange" Overall: meh |
The Thornwaite Inheritance by Gareth P. Jones Christina from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "This was an amazing book, a cross between The Series Of Unfortunate Events and Love Among The Walnuts. This book had so many plot twists and who could possibly resist a tale of murder? Overall this book was captivating and a real page turner. |

Half Brother by Kenneth Oppel Borrow it now! Jacob from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "This is another fantastic book by Kenneth Oppel. This book has lots of interesting parts as well as suspense. Drop everything, go the the library right now and get this book!!" |
The Ivy: Secrets by Lauren Kunze Kelsey from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "I quited enjoyed this book. Some topics portrayed in the book were easy to relate to no matter if you are in highschool or post secondary. It was intresting because it is about four students who are expereincing their first year at Harvard University and yet, the novel itself was written by graduate of Harvard University. It makes you wonder how much of it may be non-fiction. I'd definately recommend this book to anyone who likes to read teenage "chic lit" novels." Ramandeep from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "I personally thought the novel was good; however, it was not original whatsoever because the topic had been done by Gossip Girl, A-List Series and the Private Series. But if you like those type of novels than this is an amazing choice for you! I fully enjoyed this novel because I needed a light read but it is not a novel you read right after you have read a very intense novel." Jozi from the Central Saanich Branch says "All in all, this book was a very good read. I couldn't put it down! The way that the story plot develops while the series plot unfolds is really captivating. The characters has very realistic and are easy to relate to. They react to the challenges faced the same way any other person would. I also really liked how it showed the emails, newpaper articles, notes and such that Callie read in a unique way. There is a few sentances that confused me a bit though, and page 104 was really confusing so maybe that could be changed. But I still really liked this book and would definatly read the rest of the series!" |
Rival by Sara Bennett Wealer Laura from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "This was a really good book. I really enjoyed it and I'll recommend it to my friends when it comes out." Paula from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "This is a really good book! I loved the way it switched back from character to character. I think it had a little to much drama, that's my only critique!" Paula from the Emily Carr Branch says "I really enjoyed the book, because I could really realte to what both girls were feeling, because I've been in situation like theirs before. I really liked how the narration of the book switched back from person to person." |

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini Borrow it now! Jennifer from the Emily Carr Branch says, "If you liked the Twilight series you should definitely read this book it's the next Twilight Series. It makes you waiting for the sequel. I didn't want the book to end. I can't wait for the next two books." Élise from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "This book hooked me right away with an unexpected twist at the start. With its complex plot superhuman characters, it's a well-balanced mix of Twilight and the Percy Jackson series. I was definitely wanting to read more when it ended, and I'm looking forward to the other parts of the series!" Paula from the Emily Carr Branch says, "I really enjoyed this book, because it has a very good storyline and in my opinion was very well written. There was some action and romance but I think it could have used more humour. I really liked how in the end all the main characters tied in together." |

Cloaked by Alex Flinn Borrow it now! Jennifer from the Emily Carr Branch says, "This book is by the same author as Beastly it's also a modern day fairy tale but it was nothing like a fairytale I've read before. It's a book that was made up by reading lots of fairy tales. I liked the book just like Beastly I couldn't put it down. If you read Beastly and like fairy tales you should read this book." Sarah from the Central Saanich Branch says, "This was an incredible book! I really, really enjoyed reading it. All the characters were fantastic but my personnal favourite was Meg. The prince and princess in this story were rather awesome as well. The important scenes are well spaced out and very exciting. Well done Alex Finn! (Author of "Beastly" which was turned into a movie staring Vanessa Hudgens)." |

Hereafter by Tara Hudson Borrow it now! Jennifer from the Emily Carr Branch says, "I loved this book! I liked the way it was written it really kept me guessing and wondering what will happen next. If you like dark mysterious books this is the one for you." Katelyn from the Saanich Centennial Branch says, "Drifting in the dark waters of a mysterious river, the only thing Amelia knows for sure is that she’s dead. With no recollection of her past life—or her actual death—she’s trapped alone in a nightmarish existence. All of this changes when she tries to rescue a boy, Joshua, from drowning in her river. As a ghost, she can do nothing but will him to live. Yet in an unforgettable moment of connection, she helps him survive. I expected this book to be amazing I love ghost and after pre-reading die for me by Amy plum I was really starting to get into the ghost idea but i was rather disappointed, the writing was crappy and was written by a 15 year old and the plot line rather long and drowned out." |

The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson Borrow it now! Natasha from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "I read the first book; Thriteen Little Blue Envelopes and this was a great sequel. The characters are all relatable and so are their relationships with eachother. The way that it is written makes you feel like you are there with them." Although I liked the first book better (Thirteen Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson) I would still definitely recommend it" Jennifer from the Emily Carr Branch says, "This book was awesome I couldn't put it down it was exciting from beginning to end! Afterlife by Claudia Gray Borrow it now! Jennifer from the Emily Carr Branch says, "I loved this book it was the fourth book in the series and I think it was the best! A page turning thriller and I just couldn't put it down! If you loved the first three books you will love this one!" Heather from the Esquimalt Branch says, "Afterlife by Claudia Gray was a disappointment. I enjoyed reading the first two books in the Evernight series, but I didn’t think the third book was necessary to complete the story. And I think the fourth book is a boring, predictable, poorly developed, wart on the series. The characters complained about their circumstances throughout the entire book. They also encountered big problems that the characters somehow solved quickly and without bloodshed. The book would have been much better if fewer things happened, and Claudia Gray spent more time to find an actual solution to the problems. The author missed a few opportunities to further develop her characters in this book. On the other hand, Evernight does include all of our favourite guys from earlier books, so it is a good book if you are looking for a girly book fix." |

Steel by Carrie Vaughn Chantelle from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "Steel, by Carrie Vaughn, was a rather typical teen adventure book, with a predicable plot line. Heroine is introduced, the scene is set for excitement, something is foreshadowed, a problem occurs, the novel climaxes, romance is casually thrown in, the problem is resolved and the novel is neatly wrapped up. I personally thought it was cute, albeit a little predictable. I believe that this book would suit 10 to 12 year olds better. Still, it was a sweet read." Tanya from the Nellie McClung Branch says, "It was a pretty good book!! i loved the pirates, they were my fav!! the ending is quite nice!" but overall, "MEH." Elise from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "A good book with an entertaining story line. Definitely a middle school age novel - full of sword fighting and piracy, but it doesn't have much character depth to it. Interesting historical references." Overall: meh. |

Laura from the Juan de Fuca Branch says, "While reading I kept thinking to myself "this is going to turn into a typical love story, I'll be mad, and then I'll read something else." But when I got to the end page and saw that it wasn't a typical love story I was happy. I really enjoyed this book, not just because it's not typical but because it is a genuinly good book." Elise from the Bruce Hutchison Branch says, "This book is excellent, but heartbreaking at points. Lauren Oliver manages to create a twisted world, driven by an unthinkable scenario: that all and any form of love is a curse. The ending makes you stop and think, and it ties everything together." |
