Wednesday June 19 Library Closure
All GVPL library branches will be closed Wednesday, June 19 for a staff training and development day. Library staff will be working and learning to serve you better! Our book drops will remain open during this time. Regular hours will resume Thursday, June 20.

Book Launch: "Scoundrels, Eccentric & Originals: Tales from the Library Vault"
We're celebrating the launch of "Scoundrels, Eccentrics and Originals: Tales from the Library Vault" a book written by GVPL's Local History Librarian, Stephen Ruttan, funded by the Friends of Greater Victoria Public Library, and published by GVPL. This free public event will be held at the Central Branch on Thursday, June 13 at 7:00 pm. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. Register here >>
Summer Reading Club for Kids
GVPL’s annual Summer Reading Club is almost here! Kids 12 and under can drop by any branch starting June 27 to pick up a reading record. You’ll be able to preview our special programs starting June 7th and register online beginning June 15th. See our SRC page for more information.
Summer With GVPL
Have you ever seen a 3D printer? A laser cutter? No? Check out our Hackerspaces Demo Night for all ages. Other summer programs for kids and teens include puppetry, science, arts and crafts, writing, drama, magic tricks, teen volunteer opportunities and more! Registration begins June 15th.
June is Aboriginal History Month
Throughout the month of June, Canadians celebrate Aboriginal history and culture from coast to coast. Drop by the library to see historical photographs from the BC Archives, attend a documentary film screening or enjoy a fantastic selection of books. We have created a number of booklists to get you started: Aboriginal Heritage Books for Kids, Picture Books & Board Books by Aboriginal Authors, Fiction for Teens & Tweens, Aboriginal History, Art of the Northwest Coast, and Canadian Aboriginal Authors.

Victoria's Jewish Synagogue Celebrates 150 Years
Victoria's Congregation Emmanu-El, the oldest synagogue in Canada, is celebrating their 150th anniversary this year and will be offering tours of the synagogue throughout the summer. We've compiled a great list of Jewish heritage books for kids.
