Branch Information: The Emily Carr Branch (formerly Saanich-Victoria Branch) was the first branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library system, opening in 1966 in the Town and Country Shopping Centre. The current building was designed by Sager & Marshall and built by Farmer Construction as a BC Centennial project and it opened in October 1972. In addition to the branch, the building has 10,332 square feet on two floors, and has housed the Visiting Library Service and Shuttle Service on the lower level. In September 1999 the Branch was renamed after famous artist/author Emily Carr.
Relocation Opportunity: The replacement of the Emily Carr Branch was identified as the top priority facility improvement in the GVPL Facilities Plan, Making Space for the Future.
