Greater Victoria Public Library launches Lynda.com for cardholders
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Victoria, BC – Greater Victoria Public Library cardholders can now access Lynda.com, an online e-learning platform with more than 3,500 courses and approximately 144,000 video tutorials taught by experts. The self-directed training is available 24/7 for those who want to learn about computers and software, business, management, design, calligraphy and more.
“We want to give our community access to a quality, online learning tool that will allow people to upgrade and enhance their professional skills,” said Maureen Sawa, CEO, Greater Victoria Public Library. “With Lynda.com, learning can happen anytime, anywhere there’s Internet access. It’s one more way the library is extending our reach, bridging the digital divide, and supporting lifelong learning for our patrons.”
“The Greater Victoria business community wants opportunities to upgrade business skills and to remain on the cutting edge,” said Catherine Holt, CEO of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce. “Lynda.com has the potential to be a popular choice, especially given the easy access through the Greater Victoria Public Library.”
“One of GVPL’s key priorities is to inspire discovery through services that enhance lifelong learning,” said Rob Martin, chair of the Library Board and municipal councillor for Colwood. “Library patrons will be able to master skills they may be missing as well as discover new interests. I see this resource as life-changing for patrons.”
Lynda.com complements GVPL’s suite of digital services, which includes online databases (e.g. Ancestry Library Edition, Consumer Reports and BC Codes Online), streaming movies and music, language learning, and downloadable ebooks and audiobooks.
