Greater Victoria Public Library launches for cardholders


Victoria, BC – Greater Victoria Public Library cardholders can now access, an online e-learning platform with more than 3,500 courses and approximately 144,000 video tutorials taught by experts. The self-directed training is available 24/7 for those who want to learn about computers and software, business, management, design, calligraphy and more.

“We want to give our community access to a quality, online learning tool that will allow people to upgrade and enhance their professional skills,” said Maureen Sawa, CEO, Greater Victoria Public Library. “With, learning can happen anytime, anywhere there’s Internet access. It’s one more way the library is extending our reach, bridging the digital divide, and supporting lifelong learning for our patrons.”

“The Greater Victoria business community wants opportunities to upgrade business skills and to remain on the cutting edge,” said Catherine Holt, CEO of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce. “ has the potential to be a popular choice, especially given the easy access through the Greater Victoria Public Library.”

“One of GVPL’s key priorities is to inspire discovery through services that enhance lifelong learning,” said Rob Martin, chair of the Library Board and municipal councillor for Colwood. “Library patrons will be able to master skills they may be missing as well as discover new interests. I see this resource as life-changing for patrons.” complements GVPL’s suite of digital services, which includes online databases (e.g. Ancestry Library Edition, Consumer Reports and BC Codes Online), streaming movies and music, language learning, and downloadable ebooks and audiobooks.

To get started with, GVPL cardholders can visit, click on on the homepage, and log in using their library card barcode and password. Those without a library card can visit any GVPL branch to sign up for a library card.

What kinds of courses can I take?

Among the topics offered are business, web development, 3D and animation, audio and music, video, graphic design, marketing, photography, calligraphy and education. You can also follow specific learning paths, such as Become a Content Marketer or Become a Digital Illustrator, which pull together essential videos from various topics.

Tell me more about the courses?

Most videos come with transcripts and some include learning activities to support the content. Videos can be downloaded for offline viewing. Playback speed can be adjusted and closed captions are provided for most videos.

If you need assistance recovering your password, you can do this by visiting and selecting My Account in the top right corner.

What if my GVPL library card expired?

If you don’t have a valid GVPL library card, temporary extensions can be arranged by calling Customer Service at 250 940-4875; or, visit any of our 11 branches for assistance.
