Summer Reading Programs for All Ages

We love those lazy, hazy summer days and easy, breezy summer nights — both are perfect for getting caught up on your reading.

For book lovers and reluctant readers alike, we have programs for all ages to inspire you to have a fun while you hit the books this summer. Read, enjoy and share your recommended reads, and enter to win great prizes along the way.

Summer Reading Club

For kids 12 and under

At home or on holidays, kids can take part in Summer Reading Club and keep up their reading skills for the school year ahead. Track daily reading on a personal reading record and collect prizes each week. This year’s theme is Walk on the Wild Side. Browse the program and events calendar for fun, free learning opportunities.

All That and a Bag of Chips

Tweens and teens, 10-18

All That and a Bag of Chips is a book review club that gives tweens and teens the chance to read and review advance copies of new Young Adult books. They choose a book, read it, and submit a review — and, they’ll earn a bag of chips for the first review they submit. Visit any branch to sign up. Read the book reviews on Tumblr.

Summer Challenge

Adults and families

Don’t let the kids have all the fun! We challenge adults to make the library part of their summer story. Choose from 18 library-related activities, including a selfie with your library card and sharing your favourite Canadian novel. Each challenge you submit on Facebook or Twitter earns you an entry into our weekly prize draws. Pick up a Summer Challenge booklet at any branch or view the challenges online.
