French collection gets $15,000 boost

GVPL’s French-language materials received an extra boost of $15,000 thanks to a grant from the Province of BC and the Government of Canada. GVPL matched the grant with an equal contribution of its own.

To best meet the needs of the Francophones and Francophiles in Greater Victoria, GVPL surveyed the community to create a wish list of new materials. Respondents asked for more books, CDs and films from Québec; award-winning fiction translated into French; adult ebooks; and books for early readers. The library met those requests – and more! – adding over 1,000 new titles thanks to the grant.

GVPL officially launched the new items at a French storytime event held at Nellie McClung on February 23.
