Emily Carr Branch, 101-3521 Blanshard St, Victoria BC V8Z 0B9
Artist and author Emily Carr wrote in 1936, “There is nothing to compare with the push of life.”
We liked her words so much, they adorn the wall of our branch and are a perfect fit with the branch’s personality.
Life pushes on, as Carr wrote, but our key location in Uptown Shopping Centre by Highways 1 and 17 makes it easier for you to enrich your busy life with a visit to the library after shopping, work or appointments. Pick up a book you put on hold, grab a Fastview or print your résumé to apply for work at Uptown.
Located on the second floor, the branch has an outdoor reading garden, and you can catch a glimpse of the Olympic Mountains from the living room.
A few prints of Carr’s work adorns the walls, a reminder of our namesake’s contributions to arts and culture, learning and discovery.
Originally named the Saanich-Victoria Branch, Emily Carr opened in 1966 and was the first branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library system outside of the main library in downtown Victoria. The branch was renamed Emily Carr in 1999 and moved to its Uptown location in 2014.
