Up-to-date information about GVPL’s products and services, including the library catalogue,
digital collections and electronic resources
GVPL is committed to providing a healthy and safe space for staff and patrons. Find out about our current library services here >>
September 13, 2021: GVPL is having access problems to our Ebsco databases, including Consumer Reports, MasterFile Premier, NoveList, and Small Engine Repair. Ebsco support is working on the issue and we hope to have access restored soon.
September 10, 2021: Starting Monday, September 13, the main entrance to the Esquimalt branch will change from Esquimalt Road to Fraser Street due to work being completed on the Esquimalt Town Square. Patrons may enter the library through the newly-completed entrance to the town square plaza, off Fraser Street. This entrance can accommodate users requiring mobility aids. This temporary change in access is expected to last for up to 6 weeks and there is no impact on library hours, services, patron parking, and book drop facilities. See the location map for details. Stay up to date on the Esquimalt Town Square project on the municipal website.
August 27, 2021: The Bruce Hutchison Branch will close at 6:00 pm on Saturday, September 4 and reopen at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 18 due to electrical upgrades being made at Saanich Commonwealth Place.
The library return bin/chute will be closed during these dates and items that are due for return during this temporary closure can be returned at any other GVPL branch. Emily Carr and Nellie McClung are the closest branches to Bruce Hutchison.
Hold items that have the status ‘ready for pickup’ will be available for collection from the Bruce Hutchison Branch until 6:00 pm on Friday, September 3. Patrons who wish to collect their hold(s) from another branch during this temporary closure can change the pick-up location using the My Account function (items with the status ‘pending’ or ‘available’ can be changed at any time using the My Account function).
Patrons who have interlibrary loan items arrive during the closure will be contacted by our customer service team to arrange for a new pick-up location; we are unable to extend the loan period for interlibrary loan items.
Summer Reading Club participants can collect their final prizes at any other GVPL location during the closure, or can collect prizes from the Bruce Hutchison Branch before, or after, the closure period; prizes will be available at all branches until September 18 and will be available at the Bruce Hutchison Branch until September 30.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The provincial interlibrary loan request service has been renamed Illume (formerly Outlook Online).
Automate is now called Auto Repair Source. It has all the same great content.
TumbleBookCloud is now TeenBookCloud, with an emphasis on teen and middle school graphic novels, ebooks, e-audiobooks, and readalong ebooks. Titles are always available and streaming only.
New in Hoopla: You can now renew borrowed items, starting 24 hours before the borrowed item expires. Renewing means you don’t lose your spot or have to re-download. A renewal counts as one of your eight monthly check-outs.
