SUMMER READING CLUB
The 2017 Summer Reading Club has come to an end. More than 8,000 kids 12 years and under “walked on the wild side” and participated by tracking their daily reading on a reading record themed with Walk on the Wild Side art by Darlene Gait of the Esquimalt First Nation.
Our SRC kids received up to seven weekly prizes for reading every day, including a bookmark, swim pass, pizza coupon and book. Plus, GVPL welcomed thousands of kids at over 250 free programs that engaged their curiosity in areas such as literacy, arts and science.
Congratulations to all the children and families for participating in this program and making reading and the library part of their summer. We know SRC kids are ready for school, and we wish you a great year.
Don’t forget: The library has fun, free programming year-round; check out our online calendar to see what’s coming up.

How Summer Reading Club Works
Summer Reading Club is a self-paced program that encourages children to read (or be read to) throughout the summer.
Step 1: Visit any GVPL branch and pick up a reading record.
Step 2: Read for a minimum of 20 minutes every day.
Step 3: Each day, write down one thing you’ve read on your reading record – just use one line per day so you don’t run out of room before the end of the summer.
Step 4: After you’ve read for seven days, visit the library to collect your weekly prize.
Step 5: Repeat steps 2 to 4. Keep up the great work!
Week 1: SRC bookmark
Week 2: Enter to win a gift certificate to a local bookstore
Week 3: SRC tattoo
Week 4: Bring your reading record to Crumsby’s Café in Estevan Village for a mini cupcake PLUS enter to win a gift certificate for Lego
Week 5: Swim pass provided by Greater Victoria Active Communities
Week 6: Coupon for individual kids’ pizza from Panago
Week 7: SRC medal or paperback book of your choice
