EMERGING LOCAL AUTHORS COLLECTION

Announcing the 2021 Emerging Local Authors Collection

We are pleased to celebrate this year’s collection with virtual greetings from GVPL CEO Maureen Sawa and Board Chair Deborah Begoray. Watch now >>

Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL) is celebrating local authors with the unveiling of the 2021 Emerging Local Authors Collection. The collection, now in its sixth year, features self-published, independent, and small press books written by local authors and published between 2010 and 2019.

Print books from the collection are displayed at the library’s Central Branch and can be placed on hold for pick up at any GVPL branch. The ebooks are showcased online through BiblioBoard, with unlimited borrowing.

The Emerging Local Authors Collection is an initiative developed by GVPL to celebrate Greater Victoria’s rich writing culture. To date, 871 unique titles and 679 authors have been part of the collection, with featured authors ranging in age from six to 90-plus.

Each fall, GVPL invites aspiring authors to apply to take part in its Emerging Local Authors Collection. To be eligible to participate, authors or illustrators must live on southern Vancouver Island or have resided there during the time of the publication of their book.

GVPL will be accepting applications for the seventh annual Emerging Local Authors Collection next fall.
