Important Notice: As of June 9, 2021, GVPL’s cloudLibrary account has been retired. Information about the transition from cloudLibrary to OverDrive/Libby is below.
Here’s what you need to know about the transition:
- The transition from cloudLibrary to OverDrive will happen over several weeks with most titles that are currently in cloudLibrary being added to OverDrive on June 9.
- No new titles will be added to cloudLibrary. Check out OverDrive and Libby for the newest ebooks and e-audiobooks.
- As of March 31, all digital magazines have moved from RBdigital to OverDrive.
- You will have access to both OverDrive and cloudLibrary during the transition.
- The transition to OverDrive will not affect other library digital resources, including the popular Hoopla and Kanopy platforms.
- Your cloudLibrary holds, wish list, and history will not be transferred to OverDrive. You are encouraged to take note of your current wish list before June 9. Any holds that are not filled in cloudLibrary before June 9 will need to be placed in OverDrive once the transfer is completed on June 9.
- Content will remain available in cloudLibrary until June 9; however, we will reduce the number of new holds allowed in cloudLibrary to lessen the impact on users during the transition. The number of new holds permitted in cloudLibrary will be reduced to 10 on April 12, to 5 on May 3, and to 1 on May 17.
- GVPL staff are available to assist you with any technical problems. Call our Customer Service Line at 250-940-4875.
Our ebooks and e-audiobooks (as well as digital magazines) are available through OverDrive and the award-winning Libby (OverDrive’s mobile app). As of June 9, 2021, GVPL’s cloudLibrary account has been retired.
All you need to get started with OverDrive/Libby is your library card number and PIN/Password. If you’ve not seen it, this OverDrive|Libby tutorial may answer many of your questions.
If you’re new to OverDrive, you’ll need to downloaded the Libby app on your mobile device or visit OverDrive in your web browser, to begin exploring the platform, checking out items, and placing holds on new materials. If you use a screen reader, the OverDrive app (or OverDrive website) is recommended. Libby is not compatible with most screen readers.

Earlier this year OverDrive acquired RBdigital. As a result of the acquisition, all our digital magazines are moving from RBdigital to OverDrive – effective March 31, 2021.
To ensure easy access in one place to digital magazines, ebooks, and e-audiobooks, we’ve decided to transition ebooks and e-audiobooks from cloudLibrary to OverDrive.
You can borrow titles in CloudLibrary right up to June 8, but you may lose access to them before the borrowing period is up if the date falls after June 8.
Unfortunately, no. Patron data cannot be transferred between platforms. If there is any content that you wish to keep a record of, such as your holds, wish list, or checkout history, please record this information before June 9. Taking screenshots can be helpful.
Please note that we will reduce the number of new holds allowed in cloudLibrary to lessen the impact on users during the transition. The number of new holds permitted in cloudLibrary will be reduced to 10 on April 12, to 5 on May 3, and to 1 on May 17.
Once GVPL’s cloudLibrary account is permanently closed and no longer available to patrons, information associated with the cloudLibrary account you made using your GVPL library card (i.e. email, reading history, holds, etc.) will be deleted from our system.
You can sign into either OverDrive or the Libby app using your GVPL library card number and PIN.
If you need help, please call our Customer Service Line at 250-940-4875.

Yes! You can place up to 15 holds in OverDrive. But the titles currently in CloudLibrary won’t be available in OverDrive for you to place holds until after June 9.
We initially thought patrons would have access to these items on their devices, as long as they already had the item checked out and downloaded. However, we have since been notified that GVPL’s cloudLibrary account will be fully decommissioned on June 9 – meaning patrons won’t have access to the title at all, even if it is downloaded in the app.
If you are interested in a title you can’t find in OverDrive, please put in a Suggest a Title request. However, it may no longer be available for us to purchase.
OverDrive has two apps – OverDrive and Libby. Both apps access the same collection of ebooks and e-audiobooks but offer slightly different features for managing accounts, reading, and listening. We are ‘recommending’ patrons use the Libby app. Many people use and love the OverDrive app, but it can be a challenging app to navigate if you are new to the platform. Libby is easy to set up and it will guide you through the process step-by-step. If you use a screen reader, you can use your computer browser or the OverDrive app. The Libby app is not recommended for screen reader users (Libby is not compatible with screen readers). Whichever app you decide to use, you should stick with just one or the other, even across multiple devices. If you prefer to access content from a website, or a non-app option, try the OverDrive website.
