Thanks to all participants in the Teen Writing Contest this year. This year’s contest featured writing inspired by the theme of the book Flight of the Hummingbird by Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, in which the tiniest creature, a hummingbird, filled with optimism and desire to act, does what she can to save her forest from a fire.
GVPL was honoured to have Timothy Vernon, the artistic director of Pacific Opera Victoria, join GVPL staff as a guest judge for this year’s contest. POV presented the Flight of the Hummingbird opera in schools in January 2020; due to COVID-19, additional planned performances were cancelled. You can watch the opera here.
